After watching the documentary movie ‘I Am Eleven’ it has made me think how lucky I am and how little the kids in India have and of still so grateful and still have a smile on their faces. It amazed me when the less fortunate kids said what they want to be when they grow up and how they wanted to change the world.
I really was blown away when the girl in India said that if she could have anything she would want money to build a house, and then the girl in the USA said she would want four day weekend.

    Hi Ms J,

    My thoughts now!

After watching ‘I am eleven” This is what I think.
    • How lucky I am compared to the some 11 year olds.
    • Well when I think about it comparing some of the eleven year olds to me it makes me feel spoilt.
    • I should be proud and happy who I am and your age.
    • Don’t waist food or complain something is small because just think of some 11 olds that aren’t fortunate as we are.

    Hi,
After watching “I am eleven” this is what I think that Genevieve Bailey is a very bubbly and cheerful person and she sent a message to me saying “anything is possible,” because by her being on a very short budget to make the documentary and still managed to work everything out is a good echeivment.
I was so surprised that one eleven year old said that she has a very big school which has only 33 people in her school! She lived in a poor country and was still smiling and a bright person.
I enjoyed listening to Billy and he made me laugh when he said “if there was to be a world war three I would hide in the cupboard and wait till it was over in there.” That made me laugh.

After watching I am 11 this is what I think
    • I think that people in different countries and different circumstances, care about different things, like the girl in India’s wish to change the world was to build her own house and the American girl house wished for more weekends.
    • That some kids feel the same way but their daily lives are so different like in Thailand the guy every day likes to ride on elephants.
    • I think that Genevieve Bailey was smart to have the idea to kind of compare their lives to ours.
    • I thought the main message about the movie was that some people are so lucky and we take it for granted and others want the simplest things more than anything in the world.
    • I think it was amazing to see them cope with really horrible situations.

After watching “I Am Eleven” this is what I think:
I think Genevieve Bailey is an inspiring movie maker because she makes topics that I wouldn’t care about to something that I can now feel close to.
Always think of the happy and exciting things not the miserable things.
People with a lot of things don’t think about what they have they just want more while people with nothing only want what they need to survive.
I think that we should be grateful for what we have and not always wanting more.
I think that the orphans enjoyed there life the same as the people with stuff.

    My Thoughts Now
I now think that how you feel at a certain age depends on where you live and who you are. I think that someone who lives in an orphanage at 11 and someone who live in America or Australia with a family and a big house will think differently. I believe that someone in an orphanage will be grateful for 100% of what they have but someone who lives with a good family and house will not be very grateful. I also feel that people who have good things want more while people who are poor want help for their friends and families. I also think that the elephants in Thailand were something different then something that somebody in Australia would do. I think that because he grew up in Thailand he’s hobbies were playing with elephants when someone in Australia’s hobbies would be playing on the computer or watching television. After watching the movie I also now realise that sometimes when my brother is mean to me or I fell hungry to not complain about it because there are people in the world who are being bullied every day or even dying of starvation. I also believe that people who are brought up differently think different things, example Reme was adopted into a family where they used solar power, therefore he thought that solar power was good. (Which it is but what I’m saying is he may not have thought that if he wasn’t brought up in that household)

    • They have different responsibilities
    • They eat diffent food on there birthday
    • They were lots of different cultures

  8.   saise006 Says:

    • After watching “I Am Eleven” This is what I think:
    • Everyone that we know could be a different culture.
    • Not everyone is the same culture.
    • They eat different foods to other places

  9.   hcasp006 Says:

After watching I Am Eleven I think all around the world
    they have different lives.
    • Even though you don’t have the money you should be happy and the kids were happy.
    • We are lucky to have the money for happy lives.
    • Even though they live different to us and not in sheltered homes they are happy whom they are .

    MY THOUGHTS NOW
These are sentences that connect to these children.
After watching “I am eleven” this is what I think:
    1. Even thought you might be poor life can still be happy.
    2. Always move forward and let nothing hold you back.
    My thoughts now
I now think that I am so lucky to have what I have, because lots of children in other countries don’t have a much at all but still seem to be happy with their life. The person I connected with was Kimberly, because Kimberly likes the same thing as me like singing dancing and acting and she is Jewish. My favourite child in the film was billy because billy was a funny and outgoing person and is not afraid to show the world what he is really like. I also really enjoyed watching the orphans because they had no mother no father and was still always optimistic.

    Hi Ms J,

After watching “I Am Eleven” this is what I think..

•It was an interesting movie because it showed 11 year olds all over the world and how different but the same they are.

•It was amazing to see the 11 year old children at an orphanage in India so thankful for what they have. They were renting houses so they had to keep moving houses but eventually got their own land and could finally call it home.

•I could connect to a girl called Kimberly from America as we both loved to act and wanted to become actresses and that we are both Jewish.

•I liked the boy billy from the U.K because he was really funny and made me laugh.
•It was really interesting to see all the translated languages on the screen.

•There were quite a few children who got bullied and shared their stories.

    Love ,

    My thoughts now
After watching “I am eleven” this is what I think:
    • People may look and sound different but we always have something in common.
    • Being eleven is better than I think
    • Even though people are poor they are still happy
    • People who have more want more but people who don’t have a lot wants everyone to be happy.
    • I could connect to some people
    • I should be grateful for what I have.
    • People who don’t have as much as me still think the same as me.

  13.   gslon006 Says:

After watching the production of “I AM ELEVEN” I thought that the movie was very strong and meant a lot and gave out a message to everyone. It was a very strong and meaningful movie because the message that it gave was “It is good being eleven and make the most of being eleven.” Genevieve Bailey has a lot of courage and confidence and wants to take a step forward. I feel very lucky and grateful to not be the children in the orphanage! What I found interesting was that the girl in America “ Kim” said if she could change the world she would make the weekend have more days and three days of school, and the girl in the orphanage said that she wants a more beautiful house and to build a new house. With the children that Genevieve Bailey chose I thought they were very interesting because they were all different. Being eleven makes me feel actually quiet special because eleven is sort of the beginning of becoming a new person/ adult. I think I could connect with the movie and children because first of all I am the same age as the children and probably we do think alike because all 11 year olds always have the same thoughts in there head and sometimes also questions. (Kim is Jewish) I thought it was a very good movie and I would like to see it again and I will recommend it to my eleven year old friends and other adults to take children to also go and see it.

After watching “I am eleven” this is what I think:
    • People with challenges like being poor and other challenges that they are so positive.
    • That the answers when the question “What would you change in the world” was asked it was amazing what difference and meaning of that answer was that came out of everyone’s mouth but they are the same age.
    • In Morocco when the girl was talking everyone was interrupting her because they thought if she said “we are poor” they would get given money.

I really enjoyed the movie and it has taught me to be happy with your age not want to be older or younger.

    • People around the world that have the same age have quite similar thoughts.
    • Wealthy and Poor/Orphanage people want such different answered when they get asked, “If you could change the world in one way what would you do?”

    Hi again 6A,

thank you for rising to the challenge and taking the time to reflect and figure out your thoughts. I shared many of your thoughts and thought that the documentary provided us with a wonderful opportunity to meet people and visit places we probably will not get to in our lives. But who knows – you too may choose to embark on a project similar to this when you finish school or your studies.
I am so glad we got to watch the documentary and to meet and chat with Genevieve.
