Unconference experience!

Our “Unconference” on PhotoPeach

free glitter text and family website at FamilyLobby.com

Hi 6A,

yesterday we held an “Unconference”. As you suggested beforehand, an unconference is when students decide what is it they want to discuss and share and students gecide which discussion they wish to join. As I was supporting one group, I was unable to visit other discussions. I am keen to know your thoughts and opinions on the following:

1. How was the “unconference” useful for you? You can bullet point your response so that you can give a detailed answer.
2. If we hold another unconference, what advice/ feedback do you have for us so that it can be an even better experience next time?
3. What do you need help with at this point in time? E.G. developing questions; choosing an inequity;refining your inquiry; etc.

    1. I thought it was a really helpful group because we heard about how people get pushed so hard by being bullied they commit suicied which was really interesting

  2.   Nadine Says:

    Question 1-
    - It helped me understand the different types of discrimination.
    - I relised how many resourses there are to find out my inquiry.
    - I learnt alot of feelings so that helped me with my inquiry.

    Question 2-
I think that maybe we could get into smaller groups next time because my group (discrimination) was people talking about different thing that was not relevent to what I really wanted to talk about and find out but otherwise it was really goood.

    Question 3-
At this point in time I am fine and up to date but would it be ok if theres nobody to do the exhibition with, would i manage?

The unconference was useful for me because it helped me finalise what I want to work on because I still wasn’t exactly sure on what I wanted to do. The unconference was also useful because it helped me choose some sub questions I may be interested in inquiring into and finally the unconference was useful because now I have the Google doc which I can look at to help me learn more about bullying.
I think that to make it better next time we should put two groups together that relate to each other to help extend our learning, example bullying and racism, they are connected and we can learn from each other if we join the two groups together.
At this moment in time I need help with finding an organisation because I think if I follow a bullying organisation it can be really useful and I could also donate to help people who are poor and being bullied.

    1. How was the “unconference” useful for you?

    1. The unconference was very useful becuase I got to find out who else was interested in what I was interested in and people who were willing to help me in my preffered type of expresion.

    2. If we hold another unconference, what advice/ feedback do you have for us so that it can be an even better experience next time?

    2. Next time if we hold another conference I think that longer time, slightly smaller groups and teachers doing less monitoring and let us be more free on the way we do our discussion will all help us to have a more efficient and succesful time at the unconference.

    3. What do you need help with at this point in time?

    3. At this point in time I need help with refining the soecific thing I want to inquire into becuase I think discrimination is very broad.

  5.   Jack Says:

    1. It helped me understand more and clear out exactly what I’m doing.
-It helped me find out how I can help the inequity and how I can act.
    - It also cleared out who I can go with and who I can use to help my final product
    2. If we hold another unconference I think we shouldn’t use google docs, because some people were abusing the privelage of using and and using it to write stupid things.
    3. I need help with trying to clear out who’s working with who in groups

    Hi Ms J,

    - It was very useful for me because my group and I Heard what different people had to say and what they wanted to do.

    - Some feedback for all of us would be next time well my group was talking on top of eachother so maybe next time we should all split up into different groups that have the same idea and talk about what we want to do and give ideas and imformation.

    - My group and I need to develope our questions and find good imformation on the internet and find other ways to find information such as- interviewing, internet ( websites ) ECT.

    * We found out what area we want to look into of disability.
    * We spoke to others and found out organisations and ways to get acces to places and people.
    * Everyone had a turn to speak.

    2. If we hold another unconference, what advice/ feedback do you have for us so that it can be an even better experience next time?
Maybe we could tell eachother different organisations and acceses but maybe in more detail.

    3. What do you need help with at this point in time? E.G. developing questions; choosing an inequity;refining your inquiry; etc.
My group is pretty on tract with everything but maybe we could start getting together our interviews with our contacts.

    Hi,
    1. The unconference was useful to me because it helped me find out who is interested in the same/simular things as me.
    2. If it was another unconference the advice that I would have for it would be instead of just sharing videos and websites, we could have shown the videos and website, so we can help each other understand the videos and explain the point of the website.
    3. At the moment I need help with creating questions because I have already worked out my topic and I have zoomed in on it, but I still need help creating the questions.
