הוא היה אומר
לא עליך המלאכה לגמור
ולא אתה בן חורין לבטל ממנה
Rabbi Tarfon used to say: “You are not required to complete the task, but you are not free to desist from it”.
1.This text is about working towards social justice in the world. According to the text, what is our responsibility?
2. Use the thinking routine Compass Points to further consider this idea.
E= Excited
What excites you about this idea? What is good about it?
W= Worrisome
What worries you about this idea? What is the downside?
N= Need to know
What else do you need to know? What questions do you have about this idea?
S= Stance
What is your stance or opinion about the idea? Do you think following this advice could make a difference in the world? What makes you say that?

E= We would be excited if there was social justice in the world.
W= We would be worried if there wasn’t social justice in the world.
N= We need to know where and where not social justice is in the world.
S= If there was social justice in the world people would get along much better.
To help as much as you can, and spread the word.
Excited: We have to try even though we can’t finish it.
Worrisome: It’s worrisome that some people don’t even try to fix social in inequities.
Need to know: Why people don’t take action.
Stance: If everybody didn’t walk away from the scial inequities the world would be a better place. Ever small differences will fix the world.
1. Our responsibility is to not always fix an inequity completely,e.g. poverty, but to never walk away from an issue.
2. Compass points:
E-Excite- It’s good that the quote encourages people to keep thinking about the less fortunate.
W-Worrisome- It’s worrisome that some people know what’s happening around them, but never try to help the issue, because they think that they have to solve the issue themselves, in actual fact it’s the whole world working together.
N-Need to know- We need to know about what’s happening around us and worldwide.
S-Stance- Yes, we think that the following advice could make a difference, because if everyone makes a small difference then it can make a massive change.
Our responsibility thatwe need to try to make the world fair, we don’t nessaserily have to complete the task, but every little bit counts.
E- It is good that that the jewish religion encourages social justice.
W- The downside is that there are so many things that can be improved in the world, scince there is a lot of inequiality.
S- our opinion on the statment is that we don’t live in a perfect world and when people just try and help it makes a huge difference. This sort of stuff will change the world entirely.
N- I really want to know if any other religions believe in the same belief as jews, which is improving social inequities and creating social justice.
No one can end social inequities by them selves, everyone has to do a little bit.
E=We would be excited if every-one would do a little bit.
W=what worries us is that no one is going to fix social inequities.
N=we need to know if people can get rid of social inquities.
S=no one can get rid of social inequities by them selves.
It is really interesting for me to read your responses to this work. I’m finding the texts and the approach to organising your thinking really good for me as well!
