After reading Perek 16 in Bereshit, please answer:
1- Is sarai being fair to Hagar? why?
2- How does Hagar feel in all of this?
3- If you were in Avram’s or Sarai’s shoes – what would YOU do in this situation ?

1. I don’t think Sarai is being fair to Hagar by treating her harshly and taking her baby away from her. It’s Hagar’s baby. Sarai has no right to take him away from her. Hagar can decide whether to keep the baby and run away, give him to Avram, give him to Sarai or to give him the Avram and Sarai.
2. I think Hagar feels confused because she doesn’t know what to do and she feels stressed in this balagan. I think she is also feeling happy because she is the mother of Ishmael.
3. If I was Sarai I would treat Hagar like Ishmael has two mothers. I wouldn’t be jealous of Hagar, I would be happy for her that she has a baby even though the baby isn’t mine.
Cheryl, what makes you say that Sarai took away Hagar’s baby?
1. I think that Sarah isn’t being unfair to Hagar because she asked her to have the child then Sarah started thinking that she doesn’t want hagar to have the child and I think that is unfair to Hagar because she is in the middle of if Avram and Hagar should or shouldn’t have the child.
2. I think Hagar feels unpleasent because if she has the child then she might feel used and I think she is uncompertable with the situation because she is like the third wheel.
3. If i was avram I would have a child with hagar because avram really wan’t a children before he dies and he is already old and he doesn;t know how long left he may have.

I am a bit confused about whether you think Sarai is being unfair to Hagar.
Also, Avraham has been promised offspring?????
1. I think that Sarai is being fair to Hagar because Sarai is trusting Hagar to have her baby with Avram.
2. I think Hagar is feeling special because out of everyone Avram chose her but I also think Hagar would feel a bit scared because she has a lot of responsibility and pressure on her.
3. If I was Sarai I would be quiet scared because I think that she would be feeling really jealous of Hagar.
Sarai would have to be able to trust Hagar a lot!
Avraham didn’t choose her, Sarai organised it.

1. I think 50/50 because Hagar is already related to Avram but Sarai is his wife so basically it is Avram’s choice. I think it is fair that Sarai is not complaining that she doesn’t get to have the baby but maybe there is another good thing on the trip that Sarai can do. So it is fair to Hagar.
2. I think Hagar is feeling for Sarai but at the same time he really wants the baby so he is fighting for the right.
3.If I was in Avram’s shoes I would probably say Sarai to have the baby with me because I brought her on this trip with me to guide me through the whole journey and if I let Hagar have the baby then it is unfair to Sarai because she then shouldn’t of come on the trip. If I was in Sarai’s shoes I would probably feel very left out and upset becaue I don’t take part in the event. I probably want to run away back home or just don’t go near the baby if possible.
Unfortunately though, Sarai was barren and couldn’t have babies at that point in time!

1. I think she is being pretty fair because she is still letting Hagar have the baby and letting her be able to say she had it.
2. I think Hagar feels bad because she can’t tell the baby that she had it and she is not part of the family, but good because she is doing something good to Abram and Sarai so the baby thinks she is not baron.
3. If I was Abram I would be happy to have the baby but probably not have it because hashem promised to give him a reward and it isn’t Sarai’s fault for not being able to have babies.
If I was Sarai I would say either me or the baby because it isn’t her fault for not being able to have babies so at least she still has some family because it is not properly her baby.

1. I think Sarai is being unfair towards Hagar because, It’s really Hagar’s and Avram’s baby, not Sarai’s and Avram’s baby. I think Sarai is jealous.

3. If I was Sarai, I’d be thankful for Hagar having a baby and following my instructions. But at the end of the day it’s Hagar’s baby, and Hashem promised a nation for Avram one way or another.

1. no I don’t think Sarai is being fair to Hagar because Hagar and Avram were supposed to have the baby but then Sarai got jealous so she tried to steal the baby back. Ithink Sarai is a little bit jealous of Hagar and Avram.
2. I think Hagar feels a little bit used but also a bit confused because Hagar had the baby which Sarai asked her to do and not Sarai is getting jealous of Hagar and Avram having the baby.

1. What Sarai is doing to Hagar is not fair because Sarai is the one who suggested to have a baby.

I think Hagar will feel taken advantige of because if someone has a kid they should have the right to keep it.
If I was in Avram’s shoe I would not have a kid with Hagar and say “god said i will have child with sarah and that i believe him”

I don’t think Sarai was being fair to Hagar because Hagar had been doing nothing wrong, she actually was giving her a baby.
She probably felt like it was unfair like “I’m giving you a baby can I please have some respect!”
If I was in Avram’s shoes I would definitely get involved because it wasn’t fair what Sarai did to Hagar and instead of Avram watching it happen, he should’ve stood up for Hagar.
