Unit of Inquiry, Welcome to 6G 2012, Where we are in place and time August 27th, 2012
This morning was our first opportunity discuss the process of our Exhibition. This experience is called a checkpoint. The purpose of the checkpoint is for a student to have a one to one conversation about their inquiry with another student.
1. How was today’s checkpoint useful to you?
2. How did you feel at the beginning of the conversation?
3. How did you feel by the end of the conversation?
4. Would you like to use checkpoints again? Why or why not?
5. Any other feedback you may want to give me is welcome…

Today’s checkpoint was useful because it helped me know how to answer the questions and explain them in full sentences. At the beginning of the conversation I felt nervous because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to answer all the questions. By the end of the conversation I felt more confident because I was able to answer the questions easily. I would like to use the checkpoints again because it helped me to understand how to answer questions for my inquiry in full sentences. I think they should have made up the questions themselves because they may understand the answers a bit more.

1. I found this useful because I got to see how I would be talking and I could see, without them telling me, that I wasn’t clear with my content and how I delivered it and I was all over the place.
2. At the beginning of the conversation I felt a tad nervous because someone was going to be sort of grading us.
3. In the end I was still a tad nervous because I knew that I was not clear but I actually had a pretty good time. I was more just talking to them than getting asked questions and explaining and I had a lot of fun.
4. I would like to use them again because I really thought it helped me to explain to people better because I could see when the understood and when they didn’t and when I was swallowing my words or talking too fast and I can now improve to make it easyer for everyone!

1. Today’s checkpoint was a little bit useful because I got to know what it’s like to be in a conversation but otherwise it didn’t help me much.
2. At the beginning of the conversation I felt a bit awkward because I didn’t know what to say.
3. At the end of the conversation I felt a bit frustrated because he didn’t listen to me and he kept getting off topic.
4. I would like to use checkpoints again because it will help me with the conversation on the night.
5. I think we should do the checkpoints again just with more mature people.

1. Today’s talk was useful for me because at the beginning of the talk I wasn’t sure whether I had enough information and if I was on the right track or not, but during the talk I realised I didn’t really need so much more information, and by the end I wasn’t so nervous anymore because I now feel more prepared for the exhibition and I also think that I have a bigger idea on what to say. I would really like to use checkpoints again because I know more of what to say and do at the exhibition and I think that the checkpoints are good practices for the exhibition.

1. It was useful to me because he gave me some websites that he knows about that could help me with my exhibition.
2. I felt a bit nervous at the beggining of the conversation just in case we had an awkward moment or we didn’t know what to say.
3. I felt much better because we always had something to talk about and I gave him a lot of tips on how it’s going to go.
4. Yes I would like to have the checkpoint again I think it was really good to let the year 5′s know what it’s like for next year, just to give them a heads up.

1. it was useful to me because it gave me a better idea of what will happen on the actual exhibition.
2. at the beginning of the conversation i felt nervous but as it went through the questions my nerves started to die down.

The checkpoint was useful because it made me think about my inquiry and really understand what we have to do to get it finished in time. I felt a little bit scared of what the questions where gonna be and how would I answer them. I felt a bit more confident with my answers and I liked the things I said because I said them without really thinking about it because I already know what I want but it made sense and it was what I wanted to say. I am not sure if I want to do this again but it was a good experience.

I think today’s checkpoint was useful because Josh asked us questions that made us think what else we could do. At the start I was nervous to see if we would know the answers of his questions but by the end I realised that Bunny and I are doing very well and we know which direction we are heading in.
I would like to use the checkpoints again next week because we would have done all of our excursions so we will have some new information.

August 27th, 2012 at 10:39 am

1. I felt that today’s checkpoint was a good way to think about what I have done and what I will do.
2. I felt a bit nervouse but after a while it was fine and it was fine and not imbarrasing to talk about sanitation for toilets to someone.
3. I felt good because I had talked to someone who I could discuss what I have done and what I am going to do.
4. I would like to use it again but not too often.

The checkpoint today was very good and useful! At the beginning of the conversation I was very hesitant because I haven’t really had a conversation yet. At the end of the conversation I felt good and that I spoke well and that I had a very good conversation and not so hesitant! I would like to use checkpoints again because I think they are very helpful.

Today’s checkpoint was really useful to me because it was really good to tell someone about my journey through exhibition. And while I was telling how I’ve come to where I am in exhibition., I realised how much I’ve done and how much I’ve achieved.
At the beginning of the conversation I felt like there was so much to tell and I didn’t know where to start, as exhibition has been such a long journey that we still haven’t finished yet. And yet by the end of the conversation I wasn’t able to get into every little detail of exhibition. But at the end of the conversation I felt good because I was able to give a little bit of my information, about exhibibtion, to someone else.
I felt using checkpoints is a really good way of reflecting. Because writing is always so boring and slow whereas speaking is quicker and it makes you feel a lot better about exhibition when you’ve finished.

I love the idea of the checkpoint. Do you have a set of questions that you ask? How long does the session last?
August 30th, 2012 at 2:41 pm
Hi there,
The session went for no more than 10 minutes. It generated really good discussions and the students really enjoyed it. We gave the Grade 5′s who were interviewing my grade (grade 6) a rubric to complete to give the grade 6 students some feedback. I will email it to you. There are questions on the rubric that the grade 5′s asked during their conversations.
